I’m Paula, and I am a proud Human of Offaly. By day, I work as a UX Designer at a software company, and I love my job. I also love this project which I do in my spare time. I’m always looking for interesting people and stories, so don’t hesitate to contact me if you have a story to share.

THE PROJECT

HUMANS OF OFFALY

While searching through the archives at the Offaly History Centre for information and photographs of my ancestors, I was motivated by the idea of recording history for future generations. Inspired by the Humans of New York project,  I began ‘Humans of Offaly in March 2018. The response has been phenomenal. Offaly History has kindly agreed to archive all of the stories and images, so they will still be here long after we are gone. My secondary goal is to produce a hardback book incorporating all the stories, so watch this space!

THE PLACE

OFFALY

Offaly is a county in the centre of Ireland. Named after the ancient Kingdom of Uí Failghe, it was once known as King’s County in honour of Philip II of Spain. The capital of Offaly is Tullamore, the home of the world-famous Tullamore Dew whiskey. We are also well known for our turf bogs, castles, and flat accent! The pace of life is easygoing, and the people are too!
