about

HUMANS OF OFFALY

I started the Humans of Offaly project in 2018, and have been finding ordinary people with extraordinary stories ever since. I absolutely love it!

I’m pictured on the steps of 26 Fitzwilliam Street Upper, Dublin 2. This was once the home of Count and Countess Plunkett (parents of Joseph Mary Plunkett, one of the leaders of 1916 rising). My grandaunt, Annie Nolan lived with the Plunkett’s for several years during the 1920s. She posed as a maid but carried messages and arms across Dublin city undetected.

Incredible stories told from the heart of ordinary people and their lives from all around the world, put together so professionally by Paula. On a personal note we will be forever grateful to Paula. She took the famous photo of Anthony and his reindeer that started the journey for him.

Humans of Offaly is a beautiful project, giving a very human insight to the extraordinary lives and contributions of ordinary people, each one offering a social history and and perspective on how the wider prevailing conditions in a changing Ireland played out in the lives of Faithful citizens. Humans of Offaly offers an extraordinary window to the contributions of Offaly people to society against a backdrop of rapidly evolving economic and social change.

Paula has a wonderful flair for capturing the spirit of Offaly and unearthing interesting stories from its residents. As a Corkonian married to an Offaly immigrant her work offers great insight into the culture and a lovely opportunity to stay connected.
